How do you get married in Bloomington, Indiana?


Here’s your checklist:


  1. Fill out a Marriage License E-Filing Application.
  2. Get an Appointment at the Monroe County Clerk’s Office
  3. Bring Valid Identification such as a driver’s license or passport.
  4. Pay the Marriage License Fee; $25 for Indiana residents, $65 for out-of-state residents.
  5. Bring Proof of Social Security Social Security Card, pay stub, or tax form will work.
  6. Hire an Officiant and Schedule Your Ceremony
  7. Attend the Ceremony with Your Partner
  8. Get married in front of your officiant, with any guests you wish to include.
  9. Sign the Marriage License
  10. The officiant will file the signed marriage license with the Clerk’s Office.

How to get a Monroe County Marriage License


First, you’ll need to schedule an appointment at the Monroe County Clerk’s Office.

Requirements:


• Complete the Marriage License E-Filing Application.

• Provide a valid photo ID, a driver’s license, or passport.

• Bring your partner to the Monroe County Clerk’s Office in Bloomington to apply for the marriage license.

• Bring $25 cash or card for Indiana residents, $65 for out-of-state residents.


Notes:


• You both must be at least 18 years old. If either of you is 16 or 17, you’ll need parental consent.

• If you plan to wed in Indiana, you can get a marriage license from the Clerk’s Office in any county in the state.

• They DO NOT perform the ceremony there. You’ll need an officiant to do that for you.

Getting married in Monroe County, Indiana


You have two ways of getting married in Monroe County:


1. Schedule an appointment at the Courthouse.

2. Hire an officiant to make your ceremony for you.


Getting married at the courthouse


Once you get your marriage license, you can schedule a time with the magistrate at the courthouse.


Requirements:


• Your marriage license

• Your partner and two witnesses

• $15


Notes:


• A courthouse official or magistrate will officiate the ceremony.

• You can have up to 6 people in the courtroom.

• You can request a certified copy of your marriage certificate from the Clerk’s Office for a fee. This certificate serves as proof of your marriage.


During the ceremony, the courthouse official and witnesses will sign the marriage license, making your marriage legally valid.

Getting married using an Officiant


You do not have to get married in a courthouse. Once you get a marriage license from the Clerk’s Office, you can hire an officiant to elope at your desired location.


After the Ceremony


The officiant will file the signed marriage license with the Clerk’s Office to officially record your marriage.
