I was privileged enough to photograph Ashley and Ryan's wedding last year at Wilmington, NC Catholic Church. The Basilica itself was beautiful. I really had to slow down because you could hear my footsteps as my second photographer and I tapped around the aisle.
The ambient lighting or available lighting mostly came from the windows which gave me enough to keep from getting blurry images. The high ceilings would've probably been impossible to bounce flash light if we were allowed. Sadly, the church didn't allow it.
It'd avoid a kit lens or camera as they would be the worst cameras to be used in the church.

One of my favorite shots
Capturing the architecture is a dream come true. From the moment you step into the building, you are transported to another time and place, surrounded by beauty and history.
One of the most memorable moments of a wedding at St. Mary's Catholic Church is the bride's entrance. Walking down the aisle in such a grand and beautiful setting is a moment that will be cherished forever.
Outside of the church, the beautiful red brick exterior and towering bell tower make for stunning photographs that capture the grandeur and significance.
Difficulty in Dimly Lit Settings
Photographing the church was a bit challenging because they didn't allow wedding photographers flash inside the church. So my assistant and I adjusted our settings accordingly.
Inadequate lighting can lead to blurred images, grainy textures, and a lack of detail, which can be disappointing for both the photographer and the clients.
It is essential to have the right equipment to handle these situations. The first step is to invest in a camera with a high ISO range, which will allow you to capture clear and sharp images in low light conditions. Additionally, having a fast lens with a wide aperture will help you let in more light and achieve a shallower depth of field.
However, even with the right equipment, photographing the setting still requires skill and expertise. It is crucial to have a thorough understanding of lighting and exposure to achieve the best possible results. Additionally, it is essential to use various lighting techniques, such as off-camera flash, to provide additional light and add depth to your photographs.
In conclusion, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wilmington, NC is a popular wedding venue that provides couples with a stunning and traditional setting for their special day. As a professional wedding photographer, capturing the beauty and significance of the church is a dream come true and provides endless opportunities for stunning and memorable photographs.
