As a Filipino American Photographer based in Wilmington, North Carolina, I was ecstatic that members of the Azalea fest chose Filipinos to feature in their cultural segment of their annual Southern festival.

I moved into town 2 years ago, I didn't really expect a lot or even meet another Pinoy(casual slang for Filipino) until 3 days ago.

I love to walk around and talk to small business owners when I saw a filipino flag. I spoke to them in Tagalog and got to know the President of Filipino American Association Ché.

It wasn't long until I joined their walk on Saturday morning where we yelled "mabuhay"(direct translation: more life) to the people of Wilmington.

Within the crowd, was North Carolina, House of Representative Maria Cervania. Stunned, that I was meeting a US Filipino official.

Thanks for this opportunity!
