Congratulations, fam! I’m so hyped that you’re getting ready to say “I do” in Milwaukee!

How do you get married in Milwaukee, WI?

Here’s your checklist:

  1. Fill out a marriage license form.
  2. Get an appointment at the Milwaukee County Courthouse.
  3. Bring a valid photo ID, driver’s license, or passport.
  4. Bring $110 in cash or card (3% convenience fee for card).
  5. Bring proof of Social Security (card, pay stub, or tax form).
  6. Set up an appointment with an officiant.
  7. Attend the ceremony with your partner and 2 witnesses.
  8. Sign the marriage license.
  9. Have the officiant file the license.

How to get a Milwaukee County Marriage License

First, you’ll need to schedule an appointment at the Milwaukee County Courthouse.

Schedule an appointment online here or call (414) 278-4067.

Requirements:

Complete a marriage form.

Provide a valid photo ID, driver’s license, or passport, and proof of Social Security.

Both you and your partner must apply in person at the Milwaukee County Courthouse.

$110 fee (cash or card).

Notes:

• You both must be at least 18 years old. If either of you is 16 or 17, you’ll need parental consent.

• If you plan to wed in Wisconsin, you can get a marriage license from any county in the state.

• The courthouse does NOT perform ceremonies. You’ll need an officiant for that.

• You can also hire one of our officiants to get you married anywhere you wish! Inquire about Photography + Officiant below.

Getting married in Milwaukee, WI

You have 2 ways of getting married in Milwaukee County:

Schedule an appointment at the courthouse(however, they’re not taking any appointments at this time)

• Hire an officiant to create your ceremony

Requirements:

Your marriage license.

Your partner and two witnesses.

Notes:

• A courthouse official or magistrate will officiate the ceremony.

• You can have up to 6 people in the courtroom.

• You can request a certified copy of your marriage certificate from the Register of Deeds office for a fee. This certificate serves as proof of your marriage.

During the ceremony, the courthouse official and witnesses will sign the marriage license, making your marriage legally valid.

You do not have to get married at the courthouse. Once you get a marriage license from the Register of Deeds/Courthouse, you can hire an officiant to elope at your desired location.

After the ceremony

The officiant will file the signed marriage license with the Register of Deeds office to officially record your marriage.
