How to Get an Alexandria Marriage License
There’s two ways to schedule an appointment, you can get your Marriage License either way.
In-Person
Visit the Clerk’s Office at one of the kiosks.
Video Appointment
Email [email protected] with the following details:
- Full names, emails, and phone numbers of both parties.
- Two preferred dates and times for your appointment.
- Planned ceremony date.

Hours: Monday - Friday | 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (arrive by 3:30 PM to ensure same-day processing)
REQUIREMENTS:
- Application Form: Complete online or bring a printed copy.
- Valid ID: Both parties must present a valid government-issued photo ID.
- Fee: $30, payable by cash or money order.
- Both Parties Must Apply Together: In person or via video.
Notes:
- No waiting period, blood tests, or residency requirements in Virginia.
- Marriage ceremonies must be performed within 60 days of receiving your license.
- For religious ceremonies, officiants must be authorized by the Circuit Court.
Getting Married in Alexandria, Virginia
You can choose between:
Civil Ceremony:
• Requirements: Marriage license, both partners, and an authorized officiant.
• Ceremony: Must be performed by an individual appointed by the Alexandria Circuit Court. Here’s the list.
Religious Ceremony:
