Here’s your checklist:
- Go to Rochester City Clerk’s Office.
- Fill out a New York State Marriage License Application.
- Bring a valid photo ID, driver’s license, or passport.
- Bring a Certified Birth Certificate with a Raised Seal.
- If previously married, bring a copy of your most recent divorce decree or a certified death certificate.

- Pay the Civil Ceremony Fee: $75.
- Sign the marriage license.

How to Get a Rochester City Marriage License
First, you’ll need to visit the Rochester City Clerk’s Office to apply for your marriage license.

Requirements:
- Complete a marriage license application.
- Provide a valid photo ID, driver’s license, or passport.

- If previously married, provide a copy of your most recent divorce decree or a certified death certificate.
- Pay the Marriage License Fee: $40.
Notes:
- The marriage license is issued immediately, but the ceremony cannot take place within 24 hours of the license being issued.
- The license is valid for 60 days, starting the day after it is issued.
- If your birth certificate or divorce decree is in another language, a certified translation into English is required.
- Witnesses must be at least 18 years of age.

Once you have your marriage license, you can schedule a civil marriage ceremony at City Hall.
