If you live somewhere with a sizable Asian population you might be able to find places that specialize in rentals. For example in Vancouver, BC area I was able to find 2-3 Chinese wedding photo companies that do dress rentals. They had really nice selections and offer free alterations. Most of the dresses have a corset style back to account for many different bride sizes.



Another option is to just buy a second hand dress, and sell it/donate it after.

Also areas with sizable Middle Eastern or Orthodox Jewish populations, although these dresses lean quite modest. My aunt is neither, but I know she rented her dress in the early 90s.

In Richmond there is Charlie’s Studio and HN Wedding. There’s also one called Cindela near Metrotown but I didn’t end up visiting it.

These services definitely exist! Ex. For my Toronto/Canada girlies: Fitzroy Rentals has a bridal collection (among others like mother of the bride, bridesmaid, etc.)

I got mine (a Jenny Yoo) for $300 on poshmark, and since I’m still a year out I might end up finding something else there before my time and I wouldn’t feel bad for throwing down another 200-300 and just selling them both again after.

In Singapore, it feels like the opposite - I can't justify spending so much (ala carte gown rentals start at USD$650, and these are in-house designs, not designers) for a 3 day rental + just waist/strap alterations. The gowns I liked were all over $1k.

If you hqve cheaper options where you live though, renting sounds like a good idea. You can also buy secondhand dresses from stillwhite (what I did, got an older designer gown for less than $800!), and maybe even resell it after!

I got mine on The RealReal. It was designer, in pristine condition, and clearly had never been worn. I looked for white dresses rather than wedding dresses.

Not a rental but I already had an ivory dress I adore, I’m going to add either a detachable wedding dress train or bridal overskirt. It’s less than $120 here

I think I still need more info regarding your preferences. Is it the cost or wanting the big dress for less or sustainability/waste concerns?

Many used dresses cost the same or more than a new dress from Azazie, ASOS, IvyWhite, or Lulu's. This sub is full of excellent suggestions for buying used or a cost effective gown or outfit.

I think the lowest you could go on a new dress is $50 (before taxes and shipping) and it will likely be a short/midi dress. People buy white dresses from Shein, Amazon, etc. too. No judgement here.



If it's sustainability, look for the natural fabrics or sustainable brands. Brides, Green Wedding Shoes, and The Knot all have lists of these brands. Reformation, Pure Magnolia, The Cotton Bride are some that come to mind but there are plenty more.
