Anything that is as time sensitive as a wedding should always be double, triple checked! I don't even know how much of this is going to keep the couple up at night. Scrambling for a new venue. And even if the other couple get kicked out, it would just feel very awkward and unprofessional to be in that situation.

The officiant delivered the bad news, that seems weird!

IMHO, if I was the venue, I would've honored who booked first and the second couple who booked later to choose a different date! And prevent damage control because it's not helpful to panic the second couple.

Officiants and Venues are practically BFFs.

If the officiant had a proper way to book their clients, and are separate from the venue, they would also know that Couple B(second couple) are getting booked on the same day too. They wouldn't have accepted the gig.

(Unless the officiant has the same system as the venue, then they are fucked.)

There's a chance that Couple B recently booked which they might be able to book another venue 🤞

This is a red flag, like I get there are favorites in this industry and you're going a mile and over to book these weddings, but this is still a business. And you would need to honor your contract.
